About Leap Ahead

Leap Ahead explains the British school system to parents in the UAE: the tests, the scores, the curriculum and the decisions that come with them.

Who we are

Leap Ahead is written by a small UK team that works with the National Curriculum, the KS2 tests and the way children learn them every day. We built this site for families following the same curriculum outside the UK.

How we check facts

  • Every number, rule and date comes from the organisation that sets it: GL Assessment for CAT4 and the Progress Tests, KHDA and ADEK for UAE school rules, the UK Department for Education and the Standards and Testing Agency for the curriculum and the KS2 tests, and the exam boards for GCSE, IGCSE and A level.
  • Each guide lists its sources at the bottom, so you can check them yourself.
  • When something is decided by each school (admissions tests, entry scores, which exam board), we say so rather than guess.
  • We do not publish fees or exam dates unless the official source is current, because these change often.
  • Each guide shows the date it was last checked.

What we are not

We are independent. We are not part of GL Assessment, KHDA, ADEK, the UAE Ministry of Education, the UK Department for Education, any exam board or any school. Your child's school always has the final word on how it uses tests and results.
